Life does not always happen how we expect. Often, we don’t even realize when an amazing thing is about to happen. Sometimes wonderful moments simply catch us by surprise.

I wanted to capture that moment of bliss, when you are finally living a dream. When there is so much going on in your head, there are simply no words.
I wanted to capture happiness, in it’s less obvious state.

As for the title, the stars in the sky are all constellations (and surrounding stars). I had been toying with the idea for months and I guess you could say I was in a more philosophical mood when I made it. I actually consulted star maps for this piece to get it just right. Virgo is in the center. A part of Leo, Cancer and Gemini are to the right (though most were later covered by the tree trunks). Parts of Libra, Serpens Caput and Hercules are to the left. I don’t remember if I added Hydra in the end, I think it was too far down.
I love the idea that you can’t really tell when the light comes from a firefly and when it comes from a star. They are all mixed in together, interconnected, the sea, the forest, the sky.

Helen´s Dawn is a tribute to Helen Frankenthaler. I took inspiration from her work, Mountain and Sea and used it to create the sky for this piece. Though my technique is different than hers, I hope to have retained its essence.

Linger has many secrets and joins other works created for my Happiness Series that centers around this quest in relation to our interdependence with the world around us. Its name may take us back to teenage years with 90s songs, a tribute paid to an amazing artist who also struggled. Yet, the elements chosen such as the straight “controlled” trees contrasting with the chaotic nature up front, may cause the viewer to just linger and reflect. What if happiness can be found elsewhere?

Abstract Life is a game of opposites and perceptions. It references the abstract without actually being completely so, with abstract images flowing along with the figurative in a delicate balancing act. This duality in turn references other dualities in life.

What Stands Between Us began as an experiment exploring the fusion between what is Abstract and what is Figurative. It is also part of my Happiness Project which centers around the quest for happiness in relation to our interdependence with the world around us. In this case through a search for a balance that was finally achieved when the sea dragons, once more, made an appearance. To me, they are a symbol of nature’s delicate balance and the desires that we chase.
I love the idea of combining landscapes and seascapes, an "impossible" idea made possible. In my world, sea creatures peacefully coexist with those from land and maybe a few that are not really of this world. I draw inspiration from the tiniest creatures to the grandest of trees. Is it any wonder, when the paradise I call home is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world?
Amanda Gorman’s awe-inspiring words made their way into this work as well, by revealing yet another perspective I had failed to consider until then.A different viewpoint through knowledge gained.
Painting Details
Above: Progess of my work on the forest. I first did the first layers of Silence in acrylic, later added the figures and details in oil. Combining both mediums allows me to take advantage of the benefits of each.
